Silver Streak’s Thoughts

Hello fellow travelers,  ‘Ole Silver Streak here, coming at you via the communication highway, Whew!.  That was a mouthful of words, just to say Hi.  I hope that your travel along this road has been smooth.  Trouble free, restful and beautiful.  I know that mine has been at times and at other times it has been ugly, rough, bumpy, rainy, which means it was slick, even for my donkeys.  I had to rest them several times along the way.  That is why it has taken me so long to write on here.  I had to take care of them.

I pray that you all have been reading that words that God gives me.  I pray that they have helped you make some sense of your life.  I know that every time I read His word and then sit and quietly wait for Him to speak to me, it changes something in my life, like writing this blog.

Tonight’s blog will be the start of several on this one subject.  It is one that He has spoken of several times over the last few weeks to me.  It also comes from speaking on a teen walk (Chrysalis) and the talk that I will give on the upcoming Men’s Walk #126.  I would ask that you pray for the men who will be gong on their 1st walk.  That they see Christ though us team members who are serving them.  So with that said, I will begin.  I am gong to talk about  a subject that is dear to me and one that needs to be said.  This book was written in 1975 by George Sweeting.  It is called How to Discover the Will of God. Psalm 27:11 says “Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path”   One of the most thrilling realities in all of life is the realization that God has a plan for your life.  That’s right!  God has a plan, a design for every one of us.  Do you know how long it took to build the Sears Tower.  Well, I do know that they were drawing up plans for it for years before the first shovel full of dirt was taken from the ground.  That is the same way with you, my friend.  The puzzle of life will never be put together with the  direction that only God can give.  The pieces do not just fall in place.  There must be order and design.  One must follow God’s blueprint.

Many people today seem to be wandering about in a fog.  They are groping from one day to the next trying to find the magic formula–the key that will open the door to fulfillment and purpose.   They never seem to know which way to turn, yet they appear willing to follow anyone and try anything.  Sound familiar?  Well, Edwin Robinson said it this way, ” The world is a kind of spiritual kindergarten where bewildered infants are trying to spell God with the wrong blocks.”

For multitudes today, life itself appears just as senseless,  Why, they ask does it matter which page comes last, first, or in the middle?  In a very real sense, man has lost his way.  According to one psychologist’s analysis of events, the present generation is “out of touch with its being and thus out of touch with God.”  Emptiness, confusion, aimlessness, and loneliness abound.

But life does not have to be like that!  Jesus said “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 19:10) God’s plan for each one of us is that we have a full, exciting, purposeful, and abundant life!  It makes a great deal of sense that the God who is the master Designer, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe should also be interested in the plan of our lives.  He who hung the worlds in space must be concerned about us, His creation.  Take a look at what the apostle Peter said in 2 Peter 3:9 and what Paul said in Hebrews 1:1  God is interested in us.  Unfortunately, many people still want to own their own show, make all their own moves.  They refuse to let God have control.  What happens is, turmoil, uncertainty, futility and often chaos.

Tomorrow, I will give you four reasons why God’s way is not only the best way, but ultimately the only way to find lasting purpose for living.

So, pardner, join me here tomorrow, same time, same place for more on discovering the will of God

Father, we come to the foot of your throne, as little children, children who need direction for our lives.  We praise you for what you have already done for us. And we praise you for what you will do for us in the future.  We know that we have sinned and we confess that to You.  We ask for Your forgiveness.  We long to walk with you daily.  We want to do your will, Father.  We know that we need to know you more to learn your will.  We ask that you show us Your way, the way that You want for us.  We don’t want to be spelling your name with the wrong blocks Father, teach us and show us the right blocks.  Now be with each person who reads this blog Father, allow their hearts to be open to Your words, that they will be touched by them and like us want to walk with you and learn your will for them.  Father be with all who are sick and in the hospitals and with the wounded throughout the world.  We rejoice  that those who have gone before us are with you now.  Father be with all the service men and women, keep them safe, Father.  Be with all the police, border patrol and fireman as they do their job.  Now, Father may we lay down after talking with you and sleep until you wake us in the morning and if it is your will that we come to you, comfort those we leave behind.  We ask all of these things, Father in your precious son’s name, who if we were the only persons here on earth, He would have still shed His blood for us.  Amen!, Amen!

Psalm 139

This will be short.  The image that you see here is a rendering by artist Diana Downing.    It got my attention.  I hope that it gets yours.  We so often forget where we come from.  I will say no more and just let you look at the image as you read the Psalm verses that go with it.  Let me know what you think of it after you get through reading and wiping tears from your eyes.  Do go and give your children a big hug and let them know that you love them.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Psalm 139:13-18
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.

I’m Ba——-ck!

Hey, gang, ‘Ole  Silver Streak here.  Sitting here at the roadside rest stop on the Emmaus Road.  The old donkeys are tired of pulling the wagon and are hungry.  So I figured that I might as well stop and feed them and get some rest myself.   It is gonna be a blister tomorrow out here in the desert.  I mean I don’t mind, it is just that the team might boke at moving.  My load doesn’t have to be in Emmaus until Friday morning.  That is so the teenagers can unload it and get it put way before Saturday.  I have an invitation to a party at this Upper Room, with a bunch of the guys.  I really only know a couple of them.  They say it is going to be a blast.  I  do hope that the donkeys will get me there by then.  I will need a rest and a shower then.  I mean the wifee won’t let me near her unless I wash the smell of the donkeys off me, at least a little bit.   Hey, did you hear about this guy, they crucified a couple of days ago.  The word I hear is it was some itinerant preacher man.  I think they said he was from    Galilee or Nazareth or some place around there.  Weirdest story I have heard.  Heck, even my old pardner over there can’t believe it.  He was following him around the last three years.  He told me the guy, told him, when he recruited him, that he would make him “fishers of men”.  Give me a break.  My pardner was a fisherman before that so what’s the difference me asks him.   He says that the preacher told him that he would just talk to men and repeat the things he told him to.  Told him he would be able to do miracles, too.  I asked him if he could exchange my woman for a new one.  He didn’t think the preacher man meant that kind of miracles.

Then as we were walking along behind the wagon, talking, this dude comes up to us and starts walking the same way we’s agoing.  He starts asking us questions and we says, “where have you been, under a rock, don’t you know what has happened?”  “Didn’t you hear abaout the execution the Pharasees had a hand in the other day?”  Well, we walks along and make more small talk, when we come to the fork in the trail and he starts to go the other way and my pardner asks him to come with us and we will feed him and so he does.  He also starts teling us things that only the preacher man could have known.  BAMM!! could have hit us with a large splinter, it was him , him that we was talking about in the flesh, so to speak.  We had to tell the others when we got there.

Well, brothers and sisters, do you think that ‘Ole Silver Streak is touched in the head?  I mean that sounds like quite a ‘tall tale’.  Well, pardner, it is all true, it really did happen to two men (not us) on the road to Emmaus.  It is right there in the Bible. I hope that you have read it.  If not, I think you had better pull out that book and wipe the dust off it and start studying it.  Get into it and let God talk to you.  He will, you know.  Well, I am not going to say any more tonight, I am going to let you read the story about the meeting on that dusty road long ago.  See if you come away with  the same feeling that those two did and like I did.  If you do, be kind enough to drop ‘Ole Silver Streak a line, here on my blog.  I would love to pray with and for you.  I want you to know Jesus that way I do.  I want you to spend eternity with us in Heaven.  So get at it and I will leave you alone, until tomorrow night.  Shalom

Two-Way Communication

Hey, ‘Ole Silver Streak here on your CB radio, fixing to finish my words  that I started last night.  I hope you all got a chance to start setting up you appointment (daily) with God and that you wrote it down in your calendar or planner.  It is very important that you do this and that way you don’t have any excuse for now talking with Him.

Jesus put so much priority on prayer.  You read of how he would rise early in the morning and go off by himself.  He went off by himself quite a bit, to just be with his Father, so they could talk.  At other times He was with people and taught them how to  get with the Father.

If you are a morning person, get up and hour earlier, if you are a night person spend an hour with God before you go to bed.  If you are a mid day person, be sure to set the time for and hour with God. He wants to talk with you and help you.  Remember that there are no busy signals on God’s line.  He is always available.

Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him.  When they found Him, they said to Him, ‘Everyone is looking for You.’ But He said to them, ‘Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth’ ” (Mk. 1:36-38)  Can you imagine a more annoying scenario?  Peter thought he knew best how Christ should spend His day.  The need Simon Peter was expressing was clearly an urgent one: “Everyone is looking for You.”  Look what Jesus did.  He was not worried about being perceived as someone who wasn’t responsive to immediate needs.  Having only a limited amount of time and energy, He had received direction from His Father to go elsewhere.  Time alone with His Father brought Jesus back to the purpose for which He came into the world: “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Lk.19:10)

“He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons” (Mk. 1:39)  No skipping over this last verse.  It’s not just a review of what was said in the previous verse.  Not by a long shot!  Verse 39 is the payoff to the whole passage.  Jesus actually did what He said He was going to do.  He went to the synagogues and preached.   Later, as His  disciples followed in His steps, it would extend ” to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8)   It is important to apply what comes out of our prayer time.  Meaningful fellowship with Christ comes when we follow His example ( 1 Pet 2:21) and we apply His Word in the power of the Spirit.

Jesus said,  “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me.  And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him” (Jn. 14:21).   Brother/sisters, if we see our quiet time only as a spiritual oasis once a day, we may fall into the trap of compartmentalized our spiritual life.  From the Garden until nos, God has desired to walk with His people in life’s journey (Gen 3:8).  So it’s essential that we take what we learn in our quiet time with us throughout the entire day.

Our Lord’s encounter in Luke 24:13-32 with the two men walking on the Emmaus Road is filled with insights about how to keep the divine dialogue with God going throughout the day.  If you left your quiet time and left you spiritual attention there, just so you could face the problems of the day in your own strength, your just compartmentalized or confining your spiritual life to an exclusive part of the day.  But Jesus never intended for us to –go it alone.  He is eager to help us solve life’s problems.  Read the story about the Walk  in Luke 24:13-16 we find the two men (of whom we know so little of ) talking about all the things which had just so recently happened.  It was while they were talking the Jesus Himself joined them  But they did not know Him.   The Bible indicates that they were troubled.  They had an internal conflict, an emotional struggle that was based on a disappointing experience.  Human beings are problem solvers by nature, and they usually don’t do it alone.  It was in this context of human need that Jesus approached the two men as they walked.  The risen Christ really does want to invade our human circumstances and carry on a dialogue with us.  Life is a journey and Christ wants to be out companion on it, not just someone we talked to at the last rest stop.  One of the great challenges of the Christian life is trying to make sense of the apparent contradictions and setbacks we all face.  Much of this comes from our having only part of the whole picture, which distorts our perspective, such as the two men on the road to Emmaus.  In Luke 24:17-24 Jesus explains it to them.    Jesus wants us to tell Him our concerns.  He has a listening ear and is concerned about all the details of our lives.  Our unique relationship with Christ allows us to communicate with Him through prayer in any of life’s experiences

Jesus explains Himself in the following verses (Luke 24:25-27)  His response sounds abrupt.  Yet in reality this situation is a case study in education.  Look at the wording “Foolish ones” is a compound word that literally means “without knowledge.”  The disciples on the Emmaus Road were handicapped by  having only part of the information.  Jesus then provided the only remedy  for spiritual ignorance —- more information.  The Teacher focused their attention on key passages of the Old Testament that explained that the Messiah must suffer before being glorified.

The lesson for us today is that though we may sometimes struggle with disappointment, we often lack all the information to make sense of it at the time.  The Lord may eventually provide the people or the necessary information to bring closure to our problem.  In some cases, we won’t get the answer until we meet Christ face-to-face in eternity,  But because life on earth is a spiritual boot camp of sorts,, it’s essential to be teachable and in regular contact with our Teacher.  Then our faith and knowledge can grow.

In Luke 24:28-29. The disciples try to constrain Him, by asking Him to abide with them and He did.  We all have times when our circumstances either nurture or hinder our spiritual development.  We need to be sensitive to those times when we begin to lose contact with the Lord. Then we need to find ways of adapting to those circumstances so that we can reestablish our closeness to Him.  In Luke 24:30-32, Jesus reveals Himself after breaking bread and blessing it, their eyes were opened and then He vanished .  R

Recognizing Christ in the Scriptures and in our life experiences should occur throughout the day rather than being limited to a once -a-day event. Read Col. 3:16 and use it as a springboard to Praise.   Our personal quiet time should cause us to praise God.   Our ongoing daily time with the Lord will help to increase our love for Him and enable us to please Him in all that we do.

So, my brothers and sisters, I have only one question to ask you?   “Have you started your journey with Christ?”  “If not, why Not?” “What is stopping you, fear, deeply hidden sins, your ashamed, feel your not worthy? ”   If that is all that is stopping you, it is time to unload the backpack.  Get rid of the stuff that is stopping you right now, tonight.  You can do it alone or with your spouse or with your pastor.  How about your best friend, they will listen and not criticize. Either way, brothers and sisters do it TONIGHT!!!  Then pick up the BIble and start really studying it and listening for the “small, still voice,”  that will be God (your Father) saying “Come, my child, let me hold you and wipe away your tears and make things all right again.  I really want to help you, son/daughter.  I want to mold you and make you into someone better than you are now.  The someone I had planned you for (Jere 29:11)  Then we will walk this journey together.  Just you and I, your Father.

If you do this, would you do me a favor?  Drop me an e-mail so that I can add you to my prayer list.  I want you to know that even though I don’t have your name in front of me, I am praying for you right now.  Brothers and sisters, Remember this…….God Loves You and so do I.  Amen! Amen!

Cultivating Two-way Communication

Hey, brothers/sisters, ‘Ole Silver Streak here, ringing your radio.  Turn it up, cause you are going to want to listen to what God says in this article.  When do you meet with God?  Just when you think of it or when you have an emergency?  You need to find a time? Are you a late night person, or an early morning or midday person?  I know a friend who held by this, “no Bible, no breakfast.”  The Bible  encourages meeting with God during any of these times.  David wrote, “O God, You are my God; early will I seek You”  (Ps.63:1)  Nehemiah, the great reformer, “read (the  Law) . . .from morning to midday”  (Neh. 8:3)  David mentioned his anticipation to meditate on God’s Word during the “night watches” (Ps. 119:148)  And the first Psalm mentioned in the Old Testament refers to the blessed man whose  ” delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he meditates day and night” (Ps. 1:2)  What matters most of all is to establish a regular time of the day when God can speak to you through His Word and you can respond to him in prayer.

” Everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things”  (1 Cor. 9:25)  If you use a day planner or computer software, Set a time in it for your appointment with God.  How much time you schedule is up to you, but no less than 15 minutes daily.  Pray about the schedule, the amount of time.  After you have prayed about it block it in your Calender.  Then find a quiet place.  That may be hard with our busy schedules, but try to find a relatively quiet place.  Once you have found it mark it down in your Calender.  Some men have come up with the title of “Man Cave.”  Whatever you call it, mark it is your Calender for that time with your God.

Isaiah says “Those who wait on the LOrd shall renew (exchange) their strength”  (Isa. 40:31   Isaiah believed that waiting on the Lord was anything but a passive process.  The Christian is not supposed to stir up his or her willpower, but instead to exchange human energy for divine energy.

Have you ever written a letter to someone in which you really opened your heart?  You probably felt vulnerable as you waited for a response.  How would you feel if the written response to your letter ignored everything you had said but talked only about issues that concerned the other person? This could be the view of heaven as many a quiet time goes on day in and day out.  The Bible is a love letter from our heavenly Father.  Yet too often our prayers do not reflect the actual portion of Scripture we have read.  Instead, the content of the love letter is ignored as our many pressing needs are petitioned upward.  What needs to happen, however is spiritual two-way communication.

God speaks to us through His Word.  1 Samuel 3:21 says that “the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel . . . by the word of the Lord.”  The Creator discloses His thoughts, character, and will through His Word.  Today, He illuminates the Bibles so we can have or understanding enlightened by the Holy Spirit as we read it.  First, we need to ask, “What does the passage say?”  Allow the Bible passage to speak for itself in its original historical and cultural settings.  For example, let the Bible character wear his robe and sandals instead of expecting him to wear a business suit.

The second step is to ask, “What does it mean?” Within the Bible passage is an eternal spiritual truth that is meaning ful in all ages.  Often the main idea is not time-bound to an era hundreds of years ago but can be seen in our own time’s contemporary clothing.

Finally, we need to ask, “How does it apply?”    The Holy Spirit will change our thoughts, speech and behavior when we allow Him to use the spiritual principles we find in God’s Word.  A key question to ask is, “In what measurable ways should my life change as a result of studying this passage?”

We respond to God in Prayer.  Daniel “prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.” (Dan. 6:10).  Take time to digest your meal.  “Your words were found and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart;  for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of  hosts.”  (Jer. 16:16)

Write down your thoughts and feelings in a journal, either online or on paper.  If we have a written record of what is covered in our quiet time, various trends in our walk of faith will be revealed.  In addition to this, we will see progress that has been made in different areas of our lives that would go unnoticed if it were not written down.

Use various devotionals.  The one that I have been using the most is My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers. Make sure that you read both the devotional and the Scripture that goes along with it.  In other words read both books. God has promised to bless His Word, not our illustrations about it (2 Tim 3:15-16)  Look at the example of the Lord Jesus Christ.  He was perfect and never sinned, yet He looked for undistracted time with His Father.  Why?  Because Jesus functioned on earth as every human being was intended to function  —  in total dependence on the Father.

Jesus put the priority on Prayer.  Read this account in Mark 1:35-39.

Seek isolation and communion  “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”  (Mk. 1:35)

Well, that is enough meat for tonight.  I will finish this article tomorrow night, when we learn to listen to God’s direction amid distraction.  Now we need to get down on our knees and talk with our Father.  Abba, Father.  We come praising Your name.  We will praise it until the trumpets blow.  Father, we come confessing our sins (all of them, not just certain ones) and asking forgiveness, even though we don’t deserve it.  We ask you to come in and sit on the throne of our lives and give us direction. Mold us Father into the men and women that You Want us to be, not the ones we want.  Father be with our churches as they come to grips with turning back to You and the way Church use to be.  We ask that you be with our families and protect them.  We ask you to send your angels to protect those who are sick and in the hospitals.  Give them a word of comfort, Father.  Now Father we ask that you grant us wisdom and knowledge to make the right decisions and to listen for Your voice, to guide us along the way.  We ask this in Your Precious Son’s name, Amen!  Amen!

Until tomorrow, brothers/sisters,  ‘Ole Silver Streak is gonna back on out of here now and take a slide into the bunk.  You’all take care now and we talk with ya.  I’m gone, bye-bye

The Samaritan Woman (lessons from)

Ole Sliver Streak here.  Coming at you from the well here by the side of the road.  It has cold clear water.  At least I think it is clear.  But that is besides the point, God has laid on my heart the story told in His word.   The Samaritan woman.  I know that you all have read the story, right?  What?  What did you say?  You don’t know about the woman at the well?  You haven’t read it?  Well, I guess tonight before you close them there peepers, you better open your bible and read it.  It is in John 4:9-42.  Take it slow, let it sink in and percolate around for a while.  Ask God, what he is talking about.

There are three separate things that we learn from this story.

First, we learn the lesson of spiritual revelation.  Jesus gave 4 great revelations to this woman , that are critical for us today.

First.  He revealed the source of eternal life  (4:9-15)

Second, He revealed the spiritual need of the woman (4:20-24)

Third, He revealed the nature of the Father declaring that “God is spirit” and can be worshiped in any geographical place.

Fourth, He revealed Himself to be the Messiah

The first evidence of a new life was that she left the waterpot—-which is a symbol of her empty life—-behind her. D.A. Carson says about this, “In her eagerness to enjoy the new and living water, she abandons the old water jar.”   The second evidence of a new life is that she is eager to bear witness before the townspeople whom she had previously had reason to avoid.

Second, we learn the lesson of spiritual sustenance. (30-34)  What Jesus was saying in effect was this:  what really makes me tick, what keeps me up at night, what is more important than food itself, is doing the Father’s will —-pleasing the Father.

You can read in Mark 3  on how important doing the will of God is.  Again in Matthew 7:21 Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, lord”  will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.”

The third lesson we learn the lesson of spiritual harvest (35-38)  Can you imagine the confusion of the disciples when Jesus taught these lessons?  A couple of ??’s come to my mind—-do I want to live out of a bag and spend most of my time away from my family and friends to minister to strangers?  Should I go back to a life of traditions, or should I join this God-man who challenges me to drop my traditions and live.  Unless you join with Jesus in the harvest of humanity, Jesus Christ will always be to you some shadowy figure.  But to follow Jesus is an invitation to radical investment of time and effort.  It is and invitation to enjoy, and be stimulated and sustained by the will of God more than your necessary food (Job 23:12)  It is a call to REACH OUT BEYOND YOUR COMFORT ZONE, whether it is race or place.  The time to respond is now.

Wow, what a message there is in that one little chapter.  Makes one stop and think.  Think about how the woman felt, knowing that she was considered by the townspeople as low-class, but this Jew told her things.  How she was turned around and giving the “living water” of Jesus.  How she went and proclaimed to the townspeople who she had before shunned.  How we are to listen to Jesus’s words and put ourselves in the woman’s place.  That, Brothers and sisters, is what Jesus is teaching us in this parable.  So tonight when you are ready to lay down, drop to your knees and first, tell him of your sins,  ask Him to show you any sins you have forgotten.  Then as His forgiveness.  Then say, Father please give me the “living waters” I want to drink of them.  Then thank Him for everything he was done for you and for the things He will do.      Then you can sleep soundly in the arms of Jesus tonight and wake refreshed tomorrow.  Amen

Fertilizer For The Roses (God’s Words)

Well ‘Ole Silver Streak, is sitting here looking at the night-time sky.  Have you ever taken the time to just sit or like we did as kids, lay on your back and look at the sky?  Have you tried to count the number of stars.  You get up to a certain number and you lose count.  You know that trying to count the stars is like trying to count the grains of sand.  It is impossible.  But it is nice to just lay or sit or stand outside at night, when the sky is clear and just look at the stars and wonder…..just how do they stay up there, anyway.  How did God do it.  As you watch, you suddenly see a shooting star.  That is one of God’s angelic transportation vehicles, raising to fulfill another miracle.  Yes, brothers and sisters, miracles still happen.  Just remember that.  God still performs miracles, we just don’t see them as often.   A friend once told me that ” God once visited our planet.  He lived here for thirty-three years —a human life.  He entered the mainstream of the marketplace, walking amongst us and speaking in parables –stories.  He broke everything down to the simple plotline of an unfolding tale to “utter things which had been kept secret from the foundation of the world.”

He was above all else, an artist, salting his words with grace and painting a picture of life with meticulous strokes from a fine brush.  He was God, but more than anything else, he was a storyteller.  For after all, everyone loves a great story.  Remember, children, when you open your Bible, you open a door to a deeper discipleship.  So, I suggest you open it more often.  I know, you think people will think you’re a snob, when you tell them, that you would like to talk, but you have to read this chapter, because God may say something to you.  It is o.k. to read your Bible and wait for His voice.  That brings to mind another subject…the shepherd’s voice.  Jesus told us that His sheep (us) know His voice.  He cares for us and even if one is lost from the herd, He will leave the heard to find the one.  He will call his name until He finds him and then He will pick him up and carry him across His shoulders back to the herd.  Are you really listening for His voice?  Have you heard His voice?  Do you know His voice from the others that are trying to bring you down?  If you don’t recognize His voice, you really need to as the old gospel hymns goes “Dig a Little Deeper”  Learn to      know His voice, Walk like a Christian walks, talk like my Jesus wants me to talk.  Yes brothers and sisters, I am asking you no, imploring you to learn to recognize His voice before it is too late.  He will talk to you, I know, as I have heard His voice.  Now I hear it in the Word as I read it.

Brothers and sisters, I love you all dearly and I want you back in the herd (family) of God, before it is too late.  Can’t you hear Him calling you?  He is saying, “Child, I am coming to help you.  I will carry you back.”  That is my prayer for you tonight.  Be like the Prodigal Son/daughter and come home.

From a little book named “Don’t Wait for your Ship to come in….Swim Out to Meet It!  I give you these gems….God mad you an original ..not a copy.   When we do what we can, God will do what we con’t….God’s gifts are never loans; they are always deposits.   Don’t grumble because you don’t have what you want; be thankful you don’t get what you deserve..Charles Spurgeon said, “Brethren, be great believers.  Little faith will bring your souls to heaven, but great faith will bring heaven to your souls.”  ..Seek God first and the things you want will seek you…..It i more valuable to seek God’s presence than to seek His presents…..a German Proverb..Grow where you are planted.  Begin to weave, and God will give the thread….Stop  every day and look at the size of God…..God doesn’t call us to be successful.  He calls us to be faithful, says Albert Hubbard…John Wesley said this: “Do all the good you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all times you can, To all people you can, As long as you ever can.”….No problem is too large for God’s intervention, and no person is too small for God’s attention…..When God prepares to do something wonderful, He begins with a difficulty.  When He plans to do something very wonderful, He begins with an impossibility……Do you say “our Father” on Sunday  and then act like an orphan the rest of the week?——and finally, this little gem…..Prayer is the key to real success;  we stand tallest when we are on our knees.  I will leave you with two books from the Bible to read..These are the most beautiful poems ever written.  Ps 23 and Ps 91.  Take them and learn them and then store them in your heart and think of their words often.

Father, Abba, Praise your Holy Name.  Thank you Father, for being there to talk with and seek comfort and shelter with.  Thank you for sending your angels to protect us from the demons of satan.  Thank you Father for being with our leaders and with or enemies.  We know that You can change a person, Only You can soften and hardened heart.  Only you can forgive sin.  Only You can give a person a new life…in You.  Thank you Father for what you are going to do for us as we walk the narrow road that leads to you.  Thank you Father for your shepherds leading your flocks.  Father be with Pastor Monty and his family as they take some time off to replenish their life, now that he has been ordained.  Make their trip safe as they drive to Kansas and bring them back home to us, Father , if it is Your will.  I ask all of this in your precious Son’s name, Jesus Christ, Amen!  Amen!

These are Some Important Words to Remember

Well, Brothers and Sisters, ‘Ole Silver Streak is a-coming at ya. I hope that you enjoyed the wonderful day that God sent your way.  Yes, it was rather warm, maybe a little humid, but beautiful.  I was called on to help put a float together and we were expecting more people to come and help, but nobody showed up.  I think that the weather was the cause  that most people would use for an excuse.  I really think that ole satan sent one of his angels to stop people.  I know that if they had listened to God they would have been there.  Anyway, we will  try tomorrow.

Brothers and Sisters, if you missed church tonite, you missed hearing the word of God, in both music and spoken.  Our praise team used several songs that really spoke to my soul.  If you know ‘Ole Silver Streak, you would know that is not an easy thing to do.  One of their songs was titled “I want TO Know You.”  I want to hear Your voice. I want to touch you, I want to see Your face.  I want to know You more.  This is just part of the words that I have been given to tell you about the last few weeks.  They bring alive in this song.  I would suggest that you go to the internet and download it from Youtube.com.  Then put it on a CD and play it often, when you feel that you can’t go on any more.  It will pick you up, trust me.    The next song was “Who Am I.”  That is a question that we need to ask ourselves.  God knows who we are, but do we.

Their next song featured a solo by my grand-daughter.  “Free to be Me”  This song talks about dents and cracks. Talks about a young person’s thinking and then what happens when they get God.  It is really good, here again on You Tube.

The final song, was sung by my son.  It was a tribute to the men and women who protect us in far away places.  Go to You Tube and listen to it.  It is really a beautiful song.

Brothers and Sisters, this has not been an easy pc. to write tonight.  I am doing it and listening to the songs and trying to see around the tear drops.   I have to tell you that there is another song that should be song this time of year and that is “Letters from War.”  Mark Schultz on You Tube.  I know that when I saw him sing this live in Freeport, Illinois two years ago, I had tears in  my eyes thinking back to my own days in the service and the letters to my Mother.  So I would suggest this song.

Brothers and Sisters, during this weekend, visit the memorial on Perryville road or even at your local cemetary.  When you see a serviceman on the street, walk up to him/her and shake their hand and tell them thanks.  At night, get down on your knees and call on your Father to help protect them no matter where in the world they are.  Ask Him to help you accept what is going on now and know that He is coming back and will take control.  Praise Him for what He has done for us and then Praise Him for what he is going to do for us.

Abba, Father, Praise Your name on High.  May your children fall down and praise You.  May you hear the sound of your children’s voice’s as they sing praises to You.  May you know that Your children love You.  Praise your name ,Father.   Father, we come to sit at Your feet to learn what You want us to know.  We want to know You more.  Yes, Father we want to See You, and touch you.  We are chasing after You Father.  Now, we give you all the praise and say thank you for everything you have given us.  We will praise your name always.  Be with us now, Father as we leave and go back to our lives, until we come again tomorrow, like children and learn more.  Be with our churches Father and help them become the church that you want it to be.  Be there Father in the church and make Yourself known to your people.  I ask this in Your precious Son, Jesus Christ, who has covered me with His shed blood.  Amen!  Amen!  It shall be so.

Once in a While We Need To Stop and Smell the Roses

Hello again Brothers and Sisters,  ‘Ole Silver Streak sitting here behind the keyboard, making with the words.  I have found out the last couple of days that there are times when we need to slow down or stop for a little bit.  I have been running hard and fast the last few days.  I thought that it was the right thing to do.  Then God said to me “Slow down, Son.  Stop of smell the Roses that I planted.”   I was running so fast that I never even saw them.  Now  I am taking my time.  I don’t mean that I have stopped chasing God, no, never.  I am just chasing Him a little slower.  That way I can stop now and then and see what He has  painted.  It is like last night, it as just about dusk, and I was out watering the garden and talking to God.  I had wanted to know some things to clarify what I was reading.  I didn’t think that He would give me an answer right away, but He did.  It was a small rainbow in the spray of water coming from the hose.  It showed me that He is still in charge and can do what He wants.  Praise God for showing me that.

Brothers, God has given me several Scriptures that He wants you to remember.  Ps 119:11  The best defense against Satan’s lies is God’s truth.

I Chronicles 16:11  Seek the lord and His strength, seek His face continually.

Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak.

Colossians 4:2 continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.

I Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing

James 5:16 The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

I will leave you with this saying:  One hour in the presence of God will reveal any flaws in your most carefully laid plans.

Remember Brothers and Sisters, to get on your knees and talk with your Father, tonight and every night.  He really wants to have a serious conversation with you.  He wants to mold you into the person He wants you to be.  So go ahead and talk with Him, you have nothing to lose, and eternity to win.  Amen!

I Am Back Chashing Him!

Well, I have had my night off, Brothers and Sisters, so ‘Ole Silver Streak is off and running again.  Let me ask you, are you?  Off and running that is ……..after God!  If not you should be.  He wants to fellowship with  you.  He wants a closer relationship with you, than you have now.  He thinks you don’t care about him. That you don’t want to have that son/sister and father relation.  I know that you do.  You were just like me.  I thought that I could do it on my own.  I could control my life and make the right decisions.  Well, Brothers and sisters, I tried it my way for almost 45 years, before He tapped me on the shoulder.  No, He “wacked” me with a 2×4 to get my attention.  That definitely was an attention getter.  He sat me down and like the woman at the well, He told me everything I had done up to that time.  It really affected me.  Me the “big” man, know it all, do it myself, never show emotion man.  Brothers, don’t you believe it, you will show emotion.  I broke down and cried.  Not just a tear or two, no, a whole river of tears.  They started out as tears of shame, but as we talked they turned to tears of joy.  Joy that I had found what I was looking for, someone to take control of me and steer me right.  Someone to mold me into the man I was made to be.  I am not saying that I am there, no sirree bob, I have a long ways to go yet.  But I am on the right trail and have the right helper (the Holy Spirit) now.

As the writer said “I once was blind, but now I see.”  “was lost, but now am found.”  He has taken me “Just as I am” and made me into a new man.  I am learning so much more, but want so much more of Jesus, that I am chasing Him to see more of Him.  I want you to join me in the chase, brothers and sisters.  God is worth chasing after, He is the perfect one.  I talk to Him every day.  His phone line is never busy.  As the song goes. “He is on the mainline.”  He is waiting for your call.  He wants to help you travel the straight line.  He wants to mold you, like He has me.  Make the call, brothers and sisters.  Tonight, when you are ready to retire for the night, drop down on your knees first and talk to Him.  Then the first thing in the morning before you roll out of bed, thank Him for allowing you to breathe another day.  Praise His name as you stand up.  He wants to help you.

Abba, Father.  We come like little children to sit at your feet and learn from you.  We know that there are times that You are going to have to “spank” us and turn us around and head us down the right way.  We will tell you all  our sins and problems.  We will ask for your forgiveness.  We love you Father.  We praise your name to our Brothers and Sisters every day.  We just want to   love You.  Father now we ask that you be with our leaders and help them make the right decisions.  Be with our military as they protect us.  Be with our church and help us to bring it back where You want it to be.  We want more of Your glory in church.  We are coming there to worship You, Father.  We look for You to do something great in our worship service.  We want it now, Father. But in You timing, not ours.  Now be with me Father as I write these words for others to read and pray that it helps them to become closer to You.  Also be with me as I prepare my talks for the Teens and for the adults over the next two months.  That everything I do our say shows You to them, in me.  I pray all this in your precious Son’s name, Jesus Christ, Amen! Amen!  “It shall be so.”
